Our Policies

Happy music making and the safety of our young music makers is of paramount importance to us. We operate a strict policy of CRB checks, Health and Safety and carry Public Liability Insurance.

In addition we have a code of musical conduct which we ask all players and their families to respect.

As a member of a JUTP Music ensemble, all we ask from you, is that you:

• Show acceptance and respect for all members of the ensemble regardless of musical ability, age, race, gender or socio-economic background

• Accept opportunities to develop you existing skills base

• Accept that everyone in the ensemble has an equal right to all opportunities

• Have a vibrant enthusiasm for music-making

• Engage in all aspects of the life of the ensemble i.e. fundraising, organisation, sharing new ideas, socialising and publicising our events

• Take music home to practice, and take good care of it

• Attend your rehearsals regularly. Where attendance falls below 80%, your place may be offered to a new player ;  If you need to miss a rehearsal you must let us know that you will be absent.

• Accept that  additional rehearsals take place at different venues, depending on activities – i.e. a rehearsal in a performance space, or collaborating with another ensemble.

• Attend the main concert performances and events throughout the year. Other performance opportunities will arise throughout the year, which we would love you to attend if you are available

In return we will:

• Work alongside your existing learning, to give you the best advice we can as appropriate to your individual needs as a string player

• Introduce you to repertoire you might not have played or heard before

• Offer specialised opportunities appropriate for your level to work with visiting professional instrumental musicians, and access to free/subsidised workshops with professional string ensembles

• Offer performance opportunities in prestigious concert venues and festivals

• Open you access to a growing network of musical friends and generations of musicians

• We will accept and respect your opinions both musically and socially, and value the contribution you make to the life of the ensemble
