Concerts and Roadshows Summer 2012

7th July end of term concert, at St Michaels Mount Dinham. Concert features all JUTP ensembles. 4pm Concert

1st-21st July inclusive schools roadshows and "play-in-the-playground" series. All players on exam leave are welcome to participate in these concerts in various schools in the southwest. Timetable and details will follow shortly

Session 1 things to bring

• Music stands clearly named
• Snacks, drinks
• Concert gear; formal, all black + hoodies, ladies sensible shoes please, preferably flats
• Cello T’s/donuts
• Pencils
• Your music
• Sticky name label to save time on introductions when you are meeting new players
• Clothes-pegs
• Up to date medical information form, we must have accurate details for all of you
• Confirmation of your current mobile number and emergency contact details
Session 1 timings and information
• Arrive at Roland Levinsky building, University of Plymouth at 8.45am to set up, meet and greet our Cornwall players and BBCCO guests.

• Rehearsal starts at 9.05am. This is a workshop session lead by our guests from the BBCCO
• Rehearsal ends at approximately 11.15am
• If the weather is dry, we will depart from the Levinsky building at approximately 11.20am, when we will walk together down the Piazza to reach the BBC Big Screen for a setup & sound check before our performance at 12pm.
• Instrument cases will be left in a secure place close to the performance area, however it would be helpful if a parent can assist with “case sitting”
• If it is pouring with rain, we will have our performance in the Theatre at the Roland Levinsky Building, as one of the conditions of us working with the BBCCO, is that we provide indoor spaces. The performance will be at 12pm.
• Performance ends at 12.30pm
• We depart as follows for Session 2

Session 2; Ferry-Tale of New Works

  • Arrive at Fowey side of Bodinnick ferry. Please car share for transport for this. Let us know if you need help with organising this please.
  • We will need to know whom you are travelling with, contact numbers and that you have permission from your own families to be transported by other families for this part of the day.
  • Parking for parents, see below for details and information.
  • Players arrive at the Fowey Jetty at 2.20,  parking as detailed below
  • Flash Mob Busking activity by the Jetty at 2.35pm
  • 2.50pm get onto boat, players only, parents may be able to join us on board if there is room.
  • 3.00-4.00 play on boat
  • 4.05-4.10 get off boat
  • Potential for supervised busking and photo opportunities on the beaches after we come off the ferry.

General information

  • OFF BOAT, public toilets on both sides of the bay.
  • ON BOAT musical directors in front of the life jackets on right side of boat, players on left side
  • Instrument cases can be stored in the pedestrian seating areas on either side of the raised office section.
  • Boat may stop in the middle of the harbour for a while, so we can play without engine sounds
  • There is a maximum of 100 on the boat, so as well as 67 players, there is space for Tutti players, media etc
  • RISK ASSESSMENT  FOR BOAT- exits on both ends with barriers whilst on the water. Life jackets, fire extinguisher and fuel shut off on centre underneath office.
  • 2 life boats on office side of boat at either end. 12 inflatable rubber life rings positioned around boat.
  • All ferrymen are first aiders

Session 2 things to bring

• Instruments, accessories ( spare strings, resin etc)
• Music stands clearly named
• Snacks, drinks
• Concert gear; informal if you want + hoodies, ladies sensible shoes please, preferably flats
• Cello T’s/donuts
• Your music, preferably in a folder or in poly-pocket plastic wallets
• Clothes pegs
• Blu tac/ gaffer tape ( always useful for securing music stand feet on a moving boat)
• Recording equipment; audio and video preferably. We want to get as much YouTube footage as possible for archive and future publicity.

TIMINGS for Tutti (we must have confirmation that you will be attending if you are a Tutti player, spaces are limited on the Ferry and we have to have an accurate head count, we appreciate that those of you in DYCO have a previous commitment at Seale Hayne)
• Arrive at 2.20, in order to park and meet the large ensemble
• Be ready to join in with Flash Mob Busking activity
• 2.50pm get onto boat
• 2.50-2.55 get onto boat
• 3.00-4.00 play on boat with rest of ensemble
• 4.05-4.10 get off boat, free to depart.

To access the ferry from Fowey please follow signs from the roundabout at the outskirts of the town to the car ferry or make your way to Caffa Mill Car Park. The slipway for the ferry is next to the car park and the entrance is marked on the road. From the east follow signs for Bodinnick or Fowey via Ferry, as you approach Bodinnick you will see warning signs for the ferry queue.
Alternatively you may want to park in the following areas after dropping off, and walk back to the ferry
Parking is limited in the heart of the old part of the town and you are advised to make use of one of the car parks around the town. When paying for parking please allow yourself enough time as there is much to see and do in the town. Main Car Park, Hanson Drive, Fowey. PL23 1ET – suitable for cars and coaches. 269 spaces. Situated on a hill above the town about a five minute walk down to the town – a little longer up!  Minibus service available, see our Public Transport page.
Readymoney Car Park, Fowey. PL23 1JD – suitable for cars, 60 spaces.  Close to the beach and coastal footpath. About a ten to fifteen minute walk into town with good views of the estuary.
Caffa Mill Car Park, Fowey. PL23 1DF – suitable for cars, 104 spaces. Boat launching facilities available. Adjacent to the car ferry between Fowey and Bodinnick. A fairly level five to ten minute walk along narrow streets into the town centre.
Albert Quay, Fore Street, Fowey PL23 1AQ. – short stay for cars only, maximum stay 2 hours. 17 spaces.  A very busy car park and access by car is through the narrowest part of the town which is only two metres or 6’ 6” wide.
Town Quay, Fowey. PL23 1AT – winter only (1st October – 30th April) short stay for cars only, maximum stay 2 hours. 15 spaces.  Access by car is through the narrowest part of the town which is only two metres or 6’ 6” wide.
Station Yard Car Park, Station Road, Fowey PL23 1DF.  Suitable for cars Administered by Fowey Harbour Commissioners. Please note Cornwall Council tickets or the RingGo system cannot be used in this car park. Adjacent to Caffa Mill Car Park.  A fairly level five to ten minute walk along narrow streets into the town centre.
Disabled spaces. There are two centrally located outside Barclays Bank on Trafalgar Square, PL23 1BA and two on Town Quay close to the King of Prussia, PL23 1AQ

Retiring collections for Hospiscare, JUTP Music and St Michaels Mount Dinham
One of our JUTP Music emerging music leaders, vocal leader Jon Schranz will be leading this workshop, having recently been mentored and coached by his BBC Concert Orchestra mentor David Beaman at the BBC Music Nation Day, on choruses from the uplifting oratorio “The Messiah” by Handel.
Come and join us at the beautiful St Michaels Mount Dinham, Exeter for this free of charge vocal workshop; full coaching and music will be given to you on the day.
The workshop will culminate in a performance of the choruses you have learned in a public performance that afternoon where you will be joined by South West Camerata, the leading youth string ensemble from within the JUTP music family who will be performing the Bach Double violin Concerto in D minor and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto nr 6 in the 1st half of the programme.

9:30 am Registration, music distribution

10:00 am Warm ups followed by rehearsal learning two new choruses and revising the three choruses we learned on the 4th

12:15 pm Break for lunch

12:45 pm Rehearsal with South West Camerata

2:00 pm Break, free to leave the church

3:45 pm gather in the church for a 4pm performance
